The three utilities in this folder are for using the Unity DS-1 without a sequencer. With one of these utilities, you can play the Unity DS-1 from an external MIDI controller when you are using the editor, MIDI processor, or mixer.
The default MIDI input in the Unity DS-1 control panel specifies which of these input utilities is to be used by default.
Unity DS-1 Serial Input
If you have a Macintosh equipped with serial ports, and not USB, you can use this utility directly. All you need to do is select whether your MIDI interface is connected to the modem or printer port.
Unity DS-1 FreeMIDI Input
If you have FreeMIDI already installed on your machine (for Digital Performer, for example), you can use this utility to get MIDI from FreeMIDI and route it to the Unity DS-1 engine. You will have to configure FreeMIDI using the 'FreeMIDI Setup' application provided by MOTU before you can use this utility.
Unity DS-1 OMS Input
If you have OMS already installed on your machine (for Studio Vision, for example), you can use this utility to get MIDI from OMS and route it to the Unity DS-1 engine. You will have to configure OMS using the 'OMS Setup' application provided by Opcode before you can use this utility.
